This is the website of Kate Bevan Baker, Massage Therapist.
Kate practices in Inverness at The Riverdale Centre and The Centre for Complementary Therapies.
From clinical studies and from our own direct experience we know that touch is essential to well-being. Massage has been used around the world for thousands of years to improve physical and emotional health.
The word holistic comes from the Greek word "holos" meaning whole. Holistic Massage (also known as Therapeutic Massage) aims to treat the whole person - body, mind and spirit - through the use of attentive and respectful touch. Primarily this involves the manipulation of muscle and soft tissue and the gentle movement of joints.
A treatment may consist of a full or part-body massage, focussing on particular targeted areas if necessary.
On a physical level, holistic massage can help many conditions such as:
Holistic massage stimulates the circulatory and eliminatory systems of the body and boosts the immune system.
On a mental and emotional level, holistic massage can help us to relax and unwind, promoting feelings of peace and calm. It can help conditions such as :
We can rest, we can be nourished, we can renew our relationship with ourselves and with the world around us.
First of all we will have a short consultation to explore your reasons for coming for massage and to look at any particular conditions you may be suffering from. This helps me to develop a "picture" of your body and to shape the treatment to your particular needs. All information is held in the strictest confidence.
This is followed by the massage itself. Your privacy will be protected at all times - although undressed (apart from underwear) you will be covered by towels and only the area being massaged will be exposed.
Afterwards there will be an opportunity for us both to give feedback about the session.
Sometimes a series of treatments is most helpful to address a particular area of pain or more deeply held tension. Sometimes, a single session is all that is needed. Often people like to come eg once a month as a maintenance plan to alleviate the build up of stress and tension. I can advise you but of course, the frequency and timing of treatments is ultimately your choice.
Please do not eat a large meal or drink alcohol before a treatment. Have warm clothes to put on after the treatment, especially if it is cold weather.
Please feel free to speak to me or email me before making an appointment (see contact page).
